Norgesfoods imports Norwegian salmon into Malaysia ourselves and keeps it in our own cold chain from Norway to TTDI. We sell three kinds of salmon, and each one is for a different use:
| You want… | Buy | Origin | State |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sashimi, sushi, poke | Frøya sashimi salmon: midloin 300g or backloin 180g | Farmed by SalMar off Frøya island, Norway | Chilled, never frozen; 14 days at 0–2°C |
| Bagels, canapés, salads | King Mikal smoked salmon: cold-smoked or hot-smoked, ca. 250g | King Mikal smokehouse, Skiftun, Norway | Frozen |
| Grilling, baking, family dinners | Frozen Atlantic salmon: midloin 300g or backloin 180g | Farmed by SalMar, Norway (same producer as Frøya) | Frozen, not for raw use |
Also from Norway: Hofseth rainbow trout (4 × 150g, frozen) and saba mackerel fillets (ca. 1kg, frozen). Current prices and stock are always on each product page.
Why Frøya
Frøya salmon is farmed by SalMar in the sea off Frøya island in mid-Norway. At the processing plant on the island it is sorted by hand, cut into skinless, boneless loins and MAP-packed within about two hours of harvest (Frøya). We then fly it chilled to KLIA. Nothing is re-cut or re-packed in Malaysia.
The midloin is the centre cut: even thickness, slightly fattier and juicier, and great for sashimi or the oven. The backloin gives neat slices from the whole loin with no waste. Backloin vs midloin explained.
Frøya is farmed, not wild, and that is deliberate. Here is why that matters for sashimi.
When it’s available
Frøya comes in air-flown batches, so it is often sold as a pre-order. Each product page shows the current stock and the next arrival date, and you can pre-order there or on WhatsApp. Smoked and frozen salmon are usually in stock between batches.
Storing and eating it safely
- Frøya: keep at 0–2°C (the coldest part of your fridge) and eat by the date on the pack. Once opened, eat it the same day or the next. We don’t recommend freezing it, because the texture changes.
- Frozen salmon, trout and mackerel: keep frozen and thaw in the fridge. Our thawing guide has times for every pack.
- Only Frøya is for eating raw. Our frozen Atlantic salmon, trout and mackerel are for cooking.
- If you are pregnant or have a weakened immune system, raw fish and cold-smoked salmon are generally fine to eat, but do ask your doctor for advice.
